Dr. Kristina Nelson is the instructor of bassoon at the University of West Florida and the University of South Alabama. 


Kristina earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado Boulder, working with Dr. Yoshi Ishikawa. She also holds an advanced musical studies certificate from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied with Nancy Goeres of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. During her masters at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, Kristina was a Henry Mancini Institute fellow. A Tuscaloosa native, she studied with Dr. Jenny Mann in high school and earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Alabama. As an orchestral musician, she has performed with the Pensacola Symphony, Mobile Symphony, Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Chamber Orchestra, Miami Symphony Orchestra, Steamboat Symphony, and Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. Her summer studies included the Brevard Music Center, Chautaqua Music Festival, Sewanee Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, and Hot Springs Music Festival. 

Kristina loves teaching bassoonists of all levels! Her private students have been accepted to All State and other honor bands and orchestras in Alabama, Florida, and Colorado.
