Dr. Kristina Nelson is the recently appointed instructor of bassoon at the University of West Florida.

Kristina earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado Boulder, working with Dr. Yoshi Ishikawa. She also holds an advanced musical studies certificate from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied with Nancy Goeres of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. During her masters at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, Kristina was a Henry Mancini Institute fellow. A Tuscaloosa native, she studied with Dr. Jenny Mann in high school and earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Alabama. As an orchestral musician, she has performed with the Pittsburgh Chamber Orchestra, Miami Symphony Orchestra, Steamboat Symphony, and Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. Her summer studies include the Brevard Music Center, Chautaqua Music Festival, Sewanee Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, and Hot Springs Music Festival. 

An avid educator, Kristina teaches bassoonists of all levels, and her private students have been accepted to honor bands and orchestras in Alabama, Florida, and Colorado.
